Bayh Yahoo! Group Invite [Jul. 26th, 2006|03:00 pm]
College Democrats

Everyone,

Let me start off by saying that I know this sort of thing where I try to get you to sign up for something is often frowned upon (I don't usually like it either) but I hope you'll at least hear me out and understand this isn't SPAM, but instead an invitation to be part of something

With that out of the way...

My name is Garland Ragland. I am a supporter of U.S. Senator Evan Bayh and his expected Presidential run in 2008. I am also a member of a Yahoo! Group centered around this expected run.

Today I'd like to invite you to join this group. The link is as follows:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/evanbayhin2008/

It's easy to sign up and of course, it doesn't cost a thing. We're a friendly group. We mainly discuss Senator Bayh and all surrounding his expected Presidential run, but we also discuss other related political current events as well.

The discussions are interesting and I think you'd enjoy being a part of it.

For those of you who do not know who Senator Bayh is let me take a moment to tell you a little about him.

Senator Bayh is a current U.S. Senator and former Governor from Indiana. He is a Democrat. In the Senate he's a member of several committees included the Armed Services and Select Intelligence committees. Most regard Senator Bayh as a moderate. As Governor he left office with an 2nd term as governor with an 80% approval rating. It's no surprise so many approved of the job he did. As Governor he added 350,000 jobs to Indiana, more than any other Governor in Indiana history, and also increased funding for education every year of his term while also creating the largest budget surplus in the state's history AND providing for the largest tax cut in state history.

In the Senate this record of success has continued. Senator Bayh has ensured that our troops are provided with the life saving armor they need and has also took a hard stance trade, saying that free trade must be fair trade and speaking out against countries like China who cheat on trade and cost us jobs.

I hope that helps shed some light on the type of person Senator Bayh is. For more information about Senator Bayh you can check out these links:

http://www.allamericapac.com
http://www.bayhpartisan.com
http://www.americansforbayh.com

You can also check out my Bayh blog here: http://ncforbayh.blogspot.com/

I hope that all of you will consider joining or at least checking the group out.

Thank you so much for your time,

Garland

Operation Home for the Holidays [Dec. 4th, 2005|09:29 pm]

weresolipsists
Hi! I'm writing to let you know about a little anti-war performance I did
with my family over Thanksgiving weekend. I heard about this lady on the
radio doing it (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5021524)
and we copied it.

We took toy soldiers and put a label on them that says "bring me home from
Iraq for the holidays" and we placed them all over stores -- in Best Buy and
the supermarket - and then customers or employees find them on top of
granola bars or iPods, etc.

The idea is to confront consumers for a brief moment -- to ask them to think
about Bush's approach (failure!) and what they're going to do about it. It
also offers an encouragement to other activists, citizens of conscience, and
military families, in that someone is doing something to bring soldiers
home!

So, it's extremely easy (and relatively cheap) to do! Look for toy soldiers
at your local dollar, toy, or department store, glue them on to some paper,
and write/print "Bring Me Home from Iraq for the Holidays," then walk around
stores and leave them (in)conspicuously on shelves!

We're psyched, we wanna get it in blogs and news media and work a snowball
effect and have this protest-performance-action sweep the nation, and be the
next Cindy Sheehan anti-war strategy.

I've started a blog to keep track of where these are popping up. Please
send in pictures of actions you've done (or seen):
http://homefortheholidaysaction.blogspot.com/.

in peace & solidarity,
"Femme Egale"

1) where are you from (city, state or city, country) ?

2) how old are you?

3) are you: caucasian, black, spanish/latin/a/o, asian? if you are multi, say you are and what you are.

4) are you:
a) liberal
b) conservative
c) moderate
d) indifferent
e) other (please explain)

5) does racism exist in your town?

6) if you feel it does, have you seen any examples of it?

7) if it does exist, do you think the problem is bigger in smaller towns or big cities?

8) how would you propose to end racism? if you don't know, then that answer is fine too.

p.s.: this is a rough draft, so if you see a flaw with any question besides #3 (it's for stat purposes, i hope you're not offended) then let me know!

Anyone here on their state fed exec board?

I'm running here in KY. Wish me luck.

We just had family day down in Frankfort and the special guest was former Sen. Max Cleland. It was a great time and all former governors but Gov. Brereton Jones was there.

Hope all is well. If you feel like it, you can facebook me. Any Democrat is a friend of mine except Zell Miller.

I thought this was funny... [May. 9th, 2005|01:19 pm]

A woman walks into a curio shop in San Francisco. Looking around at the exotica, she notices a very lifelike, life-sized bronze statue of a
rat. It has no price tag, but is so striking she decides she must have
it. She takes it to the owner: "How much for the bronze rat?"

"Twelve dollars for the rat, a hundred dollars for the story," says the
owner.

The woman gives the shop owner twelve dollars. "I'll just take the rat,
you can keep the story."

As she walks down the street carrying his bronze rat, she notices that a
few real rats have crawled out of alleys and sewers, and begun following her down the street. This is a bit disconcerting, so she begins walking a little faster. Within a couple blocks, the group of rats behind her grows to over a hundred, and they begin squealing. She starts to trot toward the Bay. She takes a nervous look around and sees that the rats now number in the thousands, maybe millions and they are all squealing and coming toward her faster and faster. Now terrified, she runs to the edge of the Bay, and throws the bronze rat as far out into the Bay as she can. Amazingly, the millions of rats all jump into the Bay after it, and are all drowned.

The woman walks back to the curio shop. "Ah ha," says the owner, "I'll
bet you have come back for the story?"

"No," said the woman, "I came back to see if you have a bronze Republican."

Does anyone know where I can find the bumper sticker:
"knitters against bush: don't let him unravel your rights" i saw that bumper sticker at the co-op when I was home on spring break and I really want it. If anyone can give me any advice as to wear to find one that would be awesome.

Help? [Mar. 12th, 2005|09:22 pm]

Hey. I just created a community on lj called "Uniteforpeace" I'm not too html savy, nor do I think I could moderate the community on my own. The point of the community is for people to come together and promote peace. Simple hugh? I just feel like a lot of times the power of peace is underestimated. I also would like the community to deal with other aspects of the Bush Administration. I want people to feel free to express themselves, as well as post upcoming events. I would really appreicate all the help I could get.

e-mail me @: pacobu@aol.com
(also it would be fabulous if any georgian's send me an e-mail. I'm in the process of thinking about organizing a meeting in Atlanta sometime in the near future. I just get so frustrated down here. I feel like there are no outlets for us to speak.)

peace

The local news (I live in FL) just mentioned the possibility of Jeb running for president in 2008. I think I am going to go puke now.
